The retail game was released a decade ago, and was never
really considered to be a success or even a very popular
game for that matter. It was plagued with numerous bugs,
and with the passing of time, most people have probably
since forgotten about this old game.
But it was the only sequel to the original classic Blood
that was ever created, and it deserved much better treatment
then was given to it at the time.
So around 2001 or so, I decided that I would attempt
to address some of the things that I felt were wrong with
this sequel to Blood. After about 8 months, a considerable
amount of work had been done, but disaster was soon to
strike. An electrical short in my computer destroyed my
hard drive, and there had been no recent back ups made.
All of it was lost!
Or so I thought... The hard drive sat in my closet for
the next 5 years and no further attempt was done to duplicate
the work already completed. But my memory of this disaster
returned to me in late 2006, and I decided that I would
finally attempt to resurrect my dead hard drive by replacing
the circuit board. Miraculously it actually worked once
again, and so began this brand new odyssey to resurrect
and improve Blood 2.
This modification involves improving all areas of the
single player Blood 2 experience and making it feel more
closely related to the original Blood. The game has already
been completely retextured, almost all of the sounds have
been replaced, and extensive work is being done on the
coding. New models will also be created, and all new levels
will enhance the brand new story line created for this
redone version of Blood 2.
In late 2008 I also began experimenting with the Jupiter
version of the lithtech engine in an attempt to understand
many of lithtech's pecuilarities. These experiments could
have great benefits, and could potentially change the
course of the entire project leading to an even better
game in time ...
There is still much to be done in this massive effort
to redo Blood 2, and I'd like to think that eventually it
may possibly overcome its poor reputation, and hopefully
become a truly worthy sequel to the original Blood.
