Back to work

My last post seems to have disappeared into the Twilight Zone. I'm suspecting the Cabal might have something to do with that. They've been trying to prevent me from modifying this game for years.

But after enjoying close to a month away from this project, I think it may be time to consider getting back to work. There's still much to be done, and the coding definitely needs to be taken care of, before I start anything new.

The coding will most likely take at least half a year of work to straighten out, and its unlikely that I'll be providing any new updates during that time.

But be assured that work will continue on this project, and I have no intentions of giving up. I estimate that at least 2 years of work are needed before this entire project is anywhere near completion, and I'm sure that I'll eventually have a few new things to report on before then.

I'll be happy to continue receiving any feedback, comments, or assistance from anyone, as I continue this massive effort to repair and improve Blood 2.

"I'll be back."

New Single Player Levels

I recently had the pleasure of play testing one of the first new Blood 2 single player levels created in close to a decade.

Surprisingly this level wasn't created by me, but was done by Joe "I Live...AGAIN" Volante, and its been promised that this will be the first in a series of new single player levels created for Blood 2.

The level itself features plenty of surprises, and a good deal of action in an atmospheric environment. It's challenging and well designed, and also quite fun and entertaining.

In addition to this original new level, Joe Volante has also created a reworked version of the Roadhouse level from Psycho Circus, featuring zombies and cultists.

These 2 levels also happen to use a bit of material from a very early version of the Resurrection mod, from last spring. So you can expect to battle some classic cultists and zombies, and hear some old familiar sounds. Also included in all of this, is an old single player level created by Arjan, that now makes use of some of Resurrection's changes.

So while the Resurrection mod itself is not yet available, and is continuously improving, it still has a long way to go in achieving its goals. But here in these entertaining single player levels, it's very early origins can be witnessed, and it gives a sneak preview of the many changes that are to come.

Blood 2's resurrection has begun, and I Live...Again's new single player levels are now available for your enjoyment. Further information can be found here.

I think its great that some new content is being created for Blood 2, from someone other then myself. I'll be looking forward to any other new levels that Joe "I Live...AGAIN" Volante, or that anyone else, may create in the future.

Seeing that there's still interest in some new and improved Blood 2, gives me some incentive to continue on all of this.

I probably should get back to all of this coding ...

Online since Halloween 2007

Well I finally got around to creating a home for this project. Building a website was never high up on my list of priorities, since there's so many other things that really need to get done. But I decided that I probably needed to create a website if people were to take this project seriously.

So on Halloween 2007, this website was born. It's my first attempt at building any kind of site, so hopefully everything works ok.

But this project itself has had an interesting history so far, and it's rebirth began about a year ago. A great deal has been accomplished in that time, considering that I'm currently working alone on all of this. If anyone's actually interested in this project's history, most of the events were documented in this thread at the Transfusion forums. While you're there you could also check out all of the fine work being done by the Transfusion team, in their effort to recreate Blood.

If you don't feel like reading through 40 pages of postings, then I'll attempt to briefly describe what's been accomplished so far.

  • all retail levels have been retextured in a Blood 1 type style
  • 95% sound and music replacement
  • 65% of existing models have been reskinned
  • all Fanatics and modern cultists have been replaced with traditional Blood cultists
  • more then half of the sprite animations have been replaced
  • Souldrudges have become zombies, with a dramatic speed increase
  • many models have had their animations and values adjusted
  • new damage effects and altered destructability values
  • player walking and running speed decreased
  • enemy AI tweaked, with much more work yet to be done
  • a few new non-animated models have been created
  • greater blood spray, and bigger blood splats
  • over 2 dozen new single player levels in various sizes and states of completion
-and much, much more

That's a whole lot of work that's been done in the past year, but I'm only just getting started! There's still much work that needs to be done, as I still plan on creating new models and animations, and completely overhauling the game code.

The game code is currently being worked on, and it may take about 6 months to overhaul. But in the meantime, I'd be thrilled if anyone wants to provide any suggestions, opinions, or even volunteer some offers of assistance.

Let me know that there's people out there that may be interested in Blood 2's resurrection, and I'll do my best to create a more worthy sequel to the original Blood.
