Lighting

I've been spending a lot of time on all of these lights in the levels lately, because I felt that some improvements could be made in the overall appearance of these levels.

Through a lot of trial and error and some great advice at the Postmortem forums, I've begun to realize that lighting a level is a real art. Choosing the right colors, and brightness and then positioning them in such a way so that shadows fall where you want them to, is a definite skill.

I may not be an expert at any of this, and my skills probably still need some more work, but I'll keep on experimenting with everything....

The City at Night

I recently went back to some of my previous levels, and overhauled some of the things that I felt were wrong with them. That included the city levels that I previously created, and many of the structures and all of the lighting have now been readjusted.

I feel the dark lighting works well to create an appropriate atmosphere but I remember that one of the main complaints of Blood 2 was the dark lighting. So before I invest a lot of time in creating plenty of dark and gritty levels, it would be great to hear what others might think.

As always, comments and volunteers are appreciated.

I spent a bit more time on this industrial area of the city and it seems to be slowly improving, just like everything else with this game. Things will continue to constantly change as I experiment with the entire game, and hopefully in time the ever shrinking Blood community may find all of these results much more entertaining and enjoyable then what this game once was...

A Few More Shots

I just thought I'd upload a few more shots for anyone that may be interested in all of this madness. Most of the new levels are all in various states of completion, but I think they all demonstrate the kind of style and approach that I'm aiming for. Whether that's all a good thing or not, is not for me to say though.

People can also expect that this project will continue whether these updates continue or not. If I should ever decide to abandon this project, I'd certainly make an announcement of some sort. So no news is good news I suppose.

I can always be easily reached by anyone that may be interested in commenting on this project. Volunteers are still always welcome as well, and they would definitely speed things up. Let me know your skills and I'll do my best to give you some work...

Work is ongoing

I'm not really sure what the point of providing these updates is anymore. I'm not really getting anything out of it because very few people ever feel like commenting or writing me, and it also hasn't brought in a lot of new visitors, or encouraged people to volunteer either.

Anyone that does offer to volunteer, soon disappears into a black hole without actually ever contributing anything, and I think Neurological may have got too close to that black hole as well since I haven't heard from him lately.

So, I'm currently still working alone on all of this as the programmer, modeller, texture artist and level designer, and I don't foresee that changing anytime soon. There's a lot of work that still needs to be done and these updates do seem to be rather pointless from my perspective.

So I'll leave you with a few new screenshots of some incomplete levels, and maybe eventually I'll feel like providing some new updates again.

Work is ongoing, and volunteers and comments are always welcome.

The Beginning Revisited

This blog is proving to be more trouble then its worth. It's currently refusing to let me upload any screenshots and I was forced to manually edit the Html in order to get these screenshots to appear.

But I thought I'd take a look back at the very first incomplete level that I built for this mod. I made plenty of mistakes with this effort due to my inexperience, but I think it's still a pretty good demonstration of what a redone Blood 2 could potentially be like in time.

I'd like to think that these screenshots could potentially convince the disbelievers or the curious that Blood 2 is still worth repairing, and that support for this project could still possibly increase. But after all this time I've come to realize that support will most likely remain limited to a very small group of people, despite my best efforts in trying to increase people's interest in this project. It also continues to seem unlikely that any new volunteers may possibly come forward to offer any assistance.

Rebuilding an entire game by myself really is totally crazy. But this insanity will most likely continue on my own until they eventually come to lock me up.

As a result of currently working alone, this project will continue to take some time to put together. But as always, volunteers are more then welcome to join in this madness, and maybe someday Blood 2 might actually get resurrected...
